The Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees are to meet Aug. 12 in Dyersville, Iowa, in an 8,000-seat temporary ballpark built on the farm where the iconic Oscar-nominated 1989 film “Field of Dreams” was shot. “Field of Dreams,” which stars Kevin Costner, Ray Liotta, James Earl Jones and Amy Madigan, was nominated for three Oscars, including best picture. It’s based on the novel “Shoeless Joe” by W.P. Kinsella. Liotta plays a fictional version of former Sox star “Shoeless” Joe Jackson in the film. Jackson, one of eight Sox players banned for life from baseball for their parts in fixing the 1919 World Series, was the favorite player of the father of Costner’s character, and the Yankees later became his favorite team.
